Spiceworks\u2019 study was created by\u00a0gathering the \u00a0opinions\u00a0of over 600 IT leaders across the world,\u00a0representing diverse industries such as manufacturing (15%), Education (12%), and Health Care (9%)\u00a0among many others.\u00a0The report touches on many important areas.Read on to see what the numbers say!<\/p>\n

Spending<\/h2>\n

Spending is increasing, but so is the variety of available and useful technology that\u2019s vying for that spend. It\u2019s become more important than ever for people to learn how to stretch their IT budget. It\u2019ll be even more important in 2015: Only one third (33%) of polled IT experts predicts their budget to expand this year (a decrease from the 42% which was predicted for this time last year). For those who will be getting an increase, it\u2019s going to be small (and smaller than expected). Once again: \u201cStretch IT budget\u201d is the order of the day!<\/p>\n

The average total IT spending was determined to be $291,062, and will be allocated as follows:<\/p>\n

  • Hardware projects: 41%<\/li>\n
  • Software projects: 33%<\/li>\n
  • Cloud-based services projects: 12%<\/li>\n
  • Managed services projects: 10%<\/li>\n
  • Unknown: 3%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In terms of budget priorities, hardware and software top the chart because IT pros will mainly focus on refreshing aging equipment. They really won\u2019t be taking on many new projects:<\/p>\n

    • Laptop\/Desktop: 44%<\/li>\n
    • Software: 42%<\/li>\n
    • Storage: 35%<\/li>\n
    • Virtualization: 34%<\/li>\n
    • Networking: 32%<\/li>\n
    • Physical servers: 31%<\/li>\n
    • Security: 27%<\/li>\n
    • Cloud-based servers: 23%<\/li>\n
    • Mobile: 13%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Top 3 priorities for each category<\/h2>\n

      Now that we have seen the main segments of the 2015 IT budget, let\u2019s take a look of what each category actually includes.<\/p>\n

      Hardware:<\/strong> Physical hardware budget represents the biggest chunk of the overall budget for IT (41%), and it’s going toward equipment renewals:<\/p>\n

      1. Desktops (20%)<\/li>\n
      2. Servers (19%)<\/li>\n
      3. Networking: Wireless, routers and switches (10%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Software<\/strong>: Of the 33% of the budget that was allocated to software. The key priorities are:<\/p>\n

        2. Productivity projects (16%)<\/li>\n
        3. Virtualization services (14%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Cloud<\/strong>: IT pros predict the 12% cloud-based services budget to be distributed among:<\/p>\n

          2. Web hosting (16%)<\/li>\n
          3. Online backup\/recovery (13%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Managed services<\/strong>: The \u00a0total IT budget for managed services will be spent on:<\/p>\n
